Flint River Watershed Coalition Plans an Exciting 2019
The Flint River Watershed Coalition (FRWC) is a leading community-based advocate for clean water resources. The FRWC promotes efforts to protect, promote, and improve the area’s ecosystem through partnership, public education, scientific projects, and community involvement. FRWC believes that all people should have access to the river for recreation, swimming, and fishing as well as the economic value it provides to our communities.
Merit Laboratories is a proud supporter of the Flint River Watershed Coalition. The FRWC is always looking for volunteers that share in the group’s commitment to the Flint River Watershed. There are several ways to get involved, provide support, and volunteer, including:
Voice of the River Annual Celebration (January 31, 2019): The gala event event held at Factory One in historic Carriage Town.
Stewardship Day (April 27, 2019): The annual volunteer engagement event working at over a dozen sites to complete beautification projects and clean-up trash.
Flint River GREEN Student Summit (May 17, 2019): About 500 students from schools throughout the watershed collaborate at Kettering University where they present their monitoring results, attend breakout sessions, and meet other students.
Flint River Paddles (Throughout the Season): Group paddles throughout the spring, summer, and fall, exploring the Flint River’s diverse environment. Private paddles tours are also available.
Flint River Volunteer Monitoring (Spring and Fall): Volunteers perform benthic macroinvertebrate sampling to efficiently and effectively monitor the river’s health.
80s In The Hold (June 28, 2019): Attendees enjoy 80s music on the banks of the Flint River at Kettering University’s Atwood Stadium.
Flint River Flotilla (August 2, 2019): A fun event where more than 200 people float on all types of “water craft” on the river. The Flotilla begins at Tenacity Brewing and ends at Mott Park Recreation Area’s new Paddler’s Landing.
