Merit Laboratories will be presenting at the 2022 National Conference of the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG). The AIPG national conference is set for August 6-9, 2022 in Marquette, Michigan, along the shore of Lake Superior.
Maya Murshak, CEO and Technical Director of Merit Laboratories, will be delivering a presentation on Understanding PFAS Methods. The conference will be held at Northern Michigan University’s Northern Center. The conference will bring together professional geologists throughout the United States for this national event.
Here’s the abstract for Maya’s presentation about Understanding PFAS Methods: PFAS testing is an important component of the overall effort to identify, remediate, and eliminate source materials in an effort to help our environment and protect human health. As we learn more about these compounds and find more ways to identify the broader class of PFAS materials, the analytical testing has to keep step with the ever-expanding knowledge base. Understanding available methods and their analytical capabilities and limitations is a critical tool in making decisions in the field. This presentation summarizes the accepted procedures and methodologies currently available. With the methods available (i.e. EPA, DOD, ASTM), an ever-expanding compound list, and with all the different matrices that need to be analyzed, a comprehensive understanding is helpful in continuing to improve our environment.
The 2022 AIPG National Conference is themed ”Geology: The Cornerstone of our Future.” Geology plays a significant role in today's society and will become even more important in the years to come. Our reliance on basic resources and building materials such as sand and gravel for roads, limestone for concrete, iron for structural purposes, and other base metals for electronics and other applications will not diminish. In addition, the need for rare earth elements as well as reliable sources of fresh water are in high demand.
For registration information, please visit the AIPG National Conference website. AIPG was founded in 1963 and is the largest association dedicated to promoting geology as a profession. It has more than 6,000 members and is organized into 35 regional Sections.
Merit Laboratories is a leading national PFAS environmental laboratory, analyzing drinking water, soil, wastewater, groundwater, and other sample matrices, including biosolids and sludge. Analytical methods performed by Merit for PFAS include drinking water by EPA 533, EPA 537.1, and EPA 537 rev. 1.1, biosolids by ASTM D7968-17 with Isotopic Dilution, and soil, wastewater, groundwater, and surface water by ASTM D7979-19 with Isotopic Dilution and ASTM D7968-17.
